Therapy

Clinical Focus Areas

01 — Trauma and PTSD

Whether you resonate with the word trauma or not, many of us have lived through distressing experiences that resulted in many areas of our lives being impacted. Symptoms can include low self esteem, flashbacks, nightmares, change in mood, feeling constantly on edge, dissociation (spacing out, a sense of being outside yourself), and more. Trauma survivors might also experience somatic symptoms that can’t be explained by doctors, such as pain, gastrointestinal problems, high heart rate, or tightness in your throat. Together we can seek to understand how trauma has impacted you and develop skills to regulate your emotions.

02 — Sexual Assault and Abuse

Sexual assault and abuse results in many mental health issues, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship and attachment issues, challenges with sex and intimacy, substance abuse, and more. In a culture that has not historically been kind to survivors that speak up, especially those of racial, gender, and sexually diverse identities, survivors often struggle with feelings of shame, guilt, self blame, and a sense of little autonomy over their bodies.

Therapy for sexual assault and abuse can help you rebuild a sense of control and resilience, rediscover hope and trust, and develop a safe and healthy relationship with your body and your sexuality.

03 — Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal, human experience; it serves the essential purpose of keeping us safe. However, for many of us, anxiety can become overwhelming or unmanageable. You should consider treatment for your anxiety if you feel that you worry constantly, if the worry disturbs your daily functioning, if you experiencing panic attacks, if you find yourself avoiding situations out of fear, or if you think that your anxiety is disproportionate to the situation. Anxiety treatment can help you to challenge and reframe your thoughts to gain different perspectives, and help you discover what underlying beliefs might be influencing your thoughts.

04 — Mood Disorders

Mood disorders refer to mental disorders that impact your mood, including major depression and bipolar disorder. The common symptoms that might be present when you have a mood disorder can greatly impact your ability to function day to day, and can interfere with your relationships, your job, and can lead to self harm and suicide. Therapy can help you gain insight into your thoughts and feelings, and provide you with strategies to decrease your symptoms.

Treatment Modalities

My clinical interventions are holistic and personalized to your specific needs, symptoms, and background. Often, I will integrate practices of mindfulness, creative expression, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment theory, radical acceptance, parts work, inner child work, and others. I am also trained in EMDR Therapy (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).

You are in the driver’s seat, you have control of what your treatment experience is like. I encourage your feedback and self advocacy as you create a therapeutic experience that is both effective and safe.

I honor and affirm YOU and your inherent dignity. I practice LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and am passionate about using an intersectional approach to explore the different ways culture, social norms, policies, history, and our various social identities (chosen, ascribed, and assumed) impact our experiences in the world and how we understand ourselves.
